On April 3rd, we will be sharing in an Ecumenical Walk with the Cross through the streets of Old Quebec. This will begin at 6:30 at Chalmers-Wesley United Church, proceed to St. Andrew’s, then to the Basilica of Notre Dame, and it will conclude at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

NOTRE APPORCHE VERS DIEU / OUR APPROACH TO GOD

BIENVENUE, PRIÈRE ET APPEL À LA CÉLÉBRATION  / GREETING, PRAYER AND CALL TO WORSHIP
(Se lever / Congregation rises as the Minister enters)
As I live every day, I want to be a channel for peace. May I bring love where there is hatred and healing where there is hurt; joy where there is sadness, and hope where there is fear. I pray that I may always try to understand and comfort other people, as well as seeking comfort and understanding from them. May I choose always to be a light in the darkness, a help in times of need, and a caring honest friend. And may justice, kindness, and peace flow from my heart forever. Amen.

The Lord is our Shepherd.
God leads us by still waters.
Christ restores our souls.
The Spirit leads us in right paths.
Let us worship God who is always with us.
We will praise our God, trusting in God’s goodness and mercy!

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

Holy God, Holy and mighty
Holy, immortal one
Have mercy upon us  (3 times)

LENT CANDLE LITURGY
Like the prodigal son, we sometimes waste our lives   running toward arrogant and unthinking excess.
Like the older brother, we sometimes lose our way  resenting the blessings others receive.
But to all, Christ offers grace – a new creation and a reconciled world.
So let us be glad and rejoice in the steadfast love of God.

PRIÈRE D’INVOCATION / PRAYER OF INVOCATION

CANTIQUE / HYMN: 198 I HUNGER AND I THIRST

PRIÈRE DE CONFESSION / PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of life and love, we confess that events around us shake our trust in your love. When terror strikes and innocents fall, we wonder if love can defeat violence.
When truth is twisted by misleading claims, we doubt love can prevail over lies. When we face trouble, we wonder if you love us at all. Forgive us, God, when we lose our trust in your love.

LE NOTRE PÈRE / THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Forever and ever, Amen.

GAGE DE PARDON / ASSURANCE OF PARDON

PRIÈRE POUR L’ILLUMINATION / PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

This is the word of the Lord. (La parole de Dieu.)

PSAUME / RESPONSIVE READING:  Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
GLORIA PATRI (594) (Gloire au Père)
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

Upcoming hymns / Prochains chants

For those who have expressed interest in singing as a choir, we are including a list of upcoming hymns to give people the opportunity to learn their parts on their own ahead of time. Please see France at the beginning of the service for sitting assignment. It is important to note that people should not wear perfume while singing close to others.

How to proceed to study the music on your own:
For regular attendees who read music, you may take pictures of the hymns in the hymn book for you to practice at home for the next service. For those learning by ear, many common hymns are available on you tube where you can listen to them ahead of time. During services, the organist always plays the entire hymn once as an introduction, giving you a head start on how it goes.
