Third Sunday in Advent: Lessons and Carols
December 14, 2025

Prelude: Prelude on « Irby » Philip Moore  (b. 1043)

NOTRE APPROCHE VERS DIEU / OUR APPROACH TO GOD

GREETING AND CALL TO WORSHIP
As I live every day, I want to be a channel for peace. May I bring love where there is hatred and healing where there is hurt; joy where there is sadness, and hope where there is fear. I pray that I may always try to understand and comfort other people, as well as seeking comfort and understanding from them. May I choose always to be a light in the darkness, a help in times of need, and a caring honest friend. And may justice, kindness, and peace flow from my heart forever. Amen.

The light shines in the darkness.
We come to worship, seeking the joy Mary sang to welcome her saviour.
Source of light, shine into our lives and your world this Advent.
Renew in us the joy of our salvation.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!  (Sung)

ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING LITURGY III: JOY
Mary praised God who entrusted her with a sacred role. Great things God has done.
With Jesus’ birth, the world will never be the same again.
The powerful will be toppled from their thrones. The hungry will be lifted up and joy will break through in unexpected places.
Every time a child is born, the world changes for someone. Our world changed when a humble young woman gave birth to someone who would save us. On this third Sunday of Advent, we light the candle of joy.

(Light the pink candle)

Let us pray.
Living God, gift us with Mary’s trust and readiness to accept your purpose. May we celebrate your coming, as we say with joy: Come, Lord Jesus! Amen.
Let us now sing together the third verse of hymn 119.

HYMN 119 HOPE IS A STAR (v3)
Joy is a song that welcomes the dawn,
Telling the world that the Saviour is born.
When God is a child there’s joy in our song.
The last shall be first and the weak shall be strong,

And none shall be afraid.

Upcoming Hymns
Prochains cantiques

During Advent, we sing Hope is a Star, Advent hymns and familiar Christmas hymns.

For those who have expressed interest in singing as a choir, we are including a list of upcoming hymns to give people the opportunity to learn their parts on their own ahead of time. Please see France at the beginning of the service for sitting assignment. It is important to note that people should not wear perfume while singing close to others.

How to proceed to study the music on your own:
For those who read music, you may take pictures of the hymns in the hymn book for you to practice at home for the next service. For those learning by ear, many common hymns are available on you tube where you can listen to them ahead of time. During services, the organist always plays the entire hymn once as an introduction, giving you a head start on how it goes.
