Order of Worship / Ordre du service
Église Presbytérienne St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church
Pasteure / Minister: Rev. Dr. Katherine A. Burgess
Organiste / Organist: David Stafford
May 24th, 2026
Pentecost Sunday
PRÉLUDE / ORGAN VOLUNTARY
NOTRE APPORCHE VERS DIEU / OUR APPROACH TO GOD
BIENVENUE, PRIÈRE ET APPEL À LA CÉLÉBRATION / GREETING, PRAYER AND CALL TO WORSHIP
(Se lever / Congregation rises as the Minister enters)
As I live every day, I want to be a channel for peace. May I bring love where there is hatred and healing where there is hurt; joy where there is sadness, and hope where there is fear. I pray that I may always try to understand and comfort other people, as well as seeking comfort and understanding from them. May I choose always to be a light in the darkness, a help in times of need, and a caring honest friend. And may justice, kindness, and peace flow from my heart forever. Amen.
Breathe upon us, Holy Spirit,
and transform our thoughts and actions.
Stir in our hearts, Holy Spirit,
and fill us with your wisdom.
Breathe upon us, Holy Spirit,
and refresh our commitment to serve in repentance, love and renewal.
Stir in our hearts, Holy Spirit,
as we worship and witness to God’s love.
The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity! (Sung)
PRIÈRE D’INVOCATION / PRAYER OF INVOCATION
CANTIQUE / HYMN: 286 CREATOR GOD, CREATING STILL
PRIÈRE DE CONFESSION / PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of wind and flame, at Pentecost your Spirit inspired Jesus’ followers to speak, in his name, what was needed in ways that all who heard could understand. But we confess that we have ignored your guidance and kept to our own words and understandings rather than letting your Spirit speak through us. We have not always attended to the lessons of that first Pentecost when the Spirit demonstrated that all cultures, all languages can speak your love. We ask your forgiveness for when our witness has been false; when what we have said and done in your name came not from your Spirit or from love for you, but from love of ourselves or of power and control. Forgive us for the sins we have committed by our actions and the sins we have committed by failing to act. Send your Spirit to inspire our faith and energize us in repentance and transformation for just mission and loving ministry. Amen.
LE NOTRE PÈRE / THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Forever and ever, Amen.

Thanks be to God. (Nous rendons grâce à Dieu.)
PSAUME / RESPONSIVE READING: Psalm 104:24-34, 35b
O Lord, how manifold are your works!
In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is fill of your creatures.
Yonder is the sea, great and wide,
creeping things innumerable are there, living things both small and great.
There go the ships, and Leviathan that you formed to sport in it.
These all look to you to give them their food in due season; when you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are filled with good things.
When you hide your face, they are dismayed.
When you take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.
When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.
May the glory of the Lord endure forever.
May the Lord rejoice in all these works – who looks on the earth and it trembles.
Who touches the mountains and they smoke.
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
May my meditation be pleasing to the Lord, in whom I rejoice.
All: Bless the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord!

For those who have expressed interest in singing as a choir, we are including a list of upcoming hymns to give people the opportunity to learn their parts on their own ahead of time. Please sit on the side closest to the video camera, or see France at the beginning of the service for sitting assignment. It is important to note that people should not wear perfume while singing close to others.
How to proceed to study the music on your own:
For regular attendees who read music, you may take pictures of the hymns in the hymn book for you to practice at home for the next service. For those learning by ear, many common hymns are available on you tube where you can listen to them ahead of time. During services, the organist always plays the entire hymn once as an introduction, giving you a head start on how it goes.
