2nd Sunday of Advent/Communion
PRÉLUDE / ORGAN VOLUNTARY
NOTRE APPROCHE VERS DIEU / OUR APPROACH TO GOD
BIENVENUE, PRIÈRE ET APPEL À LA CÉLÉBRATION / GREETING, PRAYER AND CALL TO WORSHIP
(Se lever / Congregation rises as the Minister enters)
As I live every day, I want to be a channel for peace. May I bring love where there is hatred and healing where there is hurt; joy where there is sadness, and hope where there is fear. I pray that I may always try to understand and comfort other people, as well as seeking comfort and understanding from them. May I choose always to be a light in the darkness, a help in times of need, and a caring honest friend. And may justice, kindness, and peace flow from my heart forever. Amen.
The light shines in the darkness,
We come to worship, seeking the peace of Christ.
Shine into our lives and your world this Advent.
Renew in us Jesus’ call to be peacemakers this day.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity! (Sung)
ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING LITURGY
The psalmist dreamed of a world where leaders govern with righteousness, and the poor are treated with dignity and justice.
In this new creation, the oppressed are set free, the vulnerable are protected, and peace flows like a river.
Today, too many experience violence, poverty, and persecution. Yet they yearn to know peace.
We long to live in the new creation, where God’s glory is revealed on earth, through justice and peace. Today, on this second Sunday of Advent, we light the candle of peace as a prayer of longing.
(The second candle is lit)
Let us pray,
Living God, help us to recognize your presence wherever people work for peace. Teach us to be instruments of your peace in the world. Come, Lord, Jesus.
CANTIQUE/HYMN 119 HOPE IS A STAR (v2)
Peace is a ribbon that circles the earth
Giving a promise of safety and worth.
When God is a child, there’s joy in our song.
The last shall be first and the weak shall be strong.
And none shall be afraid.
PRIÈRE D’INVOCATION / PRAYER OF INVOCATION
PRIÈRE DE CONFESSION / PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of peace and promise, we confess that we have taken your commitment to us for granted. We assume what we do is acceptable to you, yet we tend to judge others without compassion. We have been slow to welcome others, especially if their cultures or convictions differ from ours. You call us to repentance, but we resist acknowledging what needs to change in our hearts or our habits. Forgive our self-satisfied attitudes, and challenge us with your vision of a peaceable kingdom where all can be made new.
GAGE DE PARDON / ASSURANCE OF PARDON
PRIÈRE POUR L’ILLUMINATION / PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
LA PAROLE DE DIEU POUR NOUS / GOD’S WORD TO US
1ère LECTURE / 1st READING: Isaiah 11: 1 – 10
This is the word of the Lord. (La parole de Dieu.)
Thanks be to God. (Nous rendons grâce à Dieu.)
PSAUME / RESPONSIVE READING: Psalm 72: 1 – 7, 18 – 19
Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to a king’s son.
May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.
May the mountains yield prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness.
May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the needy, and crush the oppressor.
May he live while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations.
May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.
In his days may righteousness flourish and peace abound,
until the moon is no more.
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things.
Blessed be God’s glorious name forever; may the glory of the Lord fill the whole earth. Amen and Amen.
GLORIA PATRI (594)
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

CANTIQUE / HYMN: 543 HERE, O MY LORD (1 – 3)
PAROLES DE L'INSTITUTION / THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION
INVITATION À LA TABLE / INVITATION TO THE TABLE
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit the one, holy, universal, and apostolic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
LA GRANDE PRIÈRE D'ACTION DE GRÂCE / THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give God thanks and praise.
Blessed are you...So now, with all the powers of heaven and earth, we sing the ageless hymn of your glory:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full, full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna in the highest.
In Jesus of Nazareth . . . we recall the mystery of our faith:
Christ has died;
Christ is risen;
Christ will come again.
Pour out your Spirit upon us...And now we pray the family prayer which Jesus taught.
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever, Amen.

Rev. Dr. Katherine Burgess
During Advent, we sing Hope is a Star, Advent hymns and familiar Christmas hymns.
For those who have expressed interest in singing as a choir, we are including a list of upcoming hymns to give people the opportunity to learn their parts on their own ahead of time. Please see France at the beginning of the service for sitting assignment. It is important to note that people should not wear perfume while singing close to others.
How to proceed to study the music on your own:
For those who read music, you may take pictures of the hymns in the hymn book for you to practice at home for the next service. For those learning by ear, many common hymns are available on you tube where you can listen to them ahead of time. During services, the organist always plays the entire hymn once as an introduction, giving you a head start on how it goes.
We are currently taking the necessary steps to upgrade to Tithe.ly's new platform.
Meanwhile, you can donate via Interac (bank transfer) to Rev. Burgess at: katherine.burgess.pcc@gmail.com
