Order of Worship / Ordre du service

Église Presbytérienne St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church

Pasteure / Minister: Rev. Dr. Katherine A. Burgess

Organiste / Organist: Mr. David Stafford

August 9th, 2026
11th Sunday after Pentecost

PRÉLUDE / ORGAN VOLUNTARY:

NOTRE APPORCHE VERS DIEU / OUR APPROACH TO GOD

BIENVENUE, PRIÈRE ET APPEL À LA CÉLÉBRATION  /

GREETING, PRAYER AND CALL TO WORSHIP
(Se lever / Congregation rises as the Minister enters)
As I live every day, I want to be a channel for peace. May I bring love where there is hatred and healing where there is hurt; joy where there is sadness, and hope where there is fear. I pray that I may always try to understand and comfort other people, as well as seeking comfort and understanding from them. May I choose always to be a light in the darkness, a help in times of need, and a caring honest friend. And may justice, kindness, and peace flow from my heart forever. Amen.

Give thanks to God!
We will tell the world what God has done.
Let us bring praise to the name of our Creator.
We will honour God’s name with shouts of joy!
Recall all that God provides.
Let us give thanks for all the wonders God has made!

The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!  (Sung)

PRIÈRE D’INVOCATION / PRAYER OF INVOCATION

CANTIQUE / HYMN: 333 I SING THE ALMIGHTY POWER OF GOD

PRIÈRE DE CONFESSION / PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful and patient God, we confess our fear, doubt and anger and all the ways we are less than you call us to be. You call us to live with courage and perseverance,  yet we give up too easily and opt for the safer route. You encourage us to be bold in our struggles for justice, yet we remain silent in the face of unfairness.  You command us to love, yet we are too often thoughtless and cruel. Forgive us our sins and, renew our lives through your mercy and grace.

LE NOTRE PÈRE / THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Forever and ever, Amen.

GAGE DE PARDON / ASSURANCE OF PARDON

PRIÈRE POUR L’ILLUMINATION / PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

LA PAROLE DE DIEU POUR NOUS / GOD’S WORD TO US

1ère LECTURE / 1st READING:
This is the word of the Lord. (La parole de Dieu.)
Thanks be to God. (Nous rendons grâce à Dieu.)

PSAUME / RESPONSIVE READING:
Psalm 105: 1 – 6, 16 – 22, 45b

O give thanks to the Lord, call on God’s name,
make known God’s deeds among the peoples.
Sing to the Lord, sing praises,
tell of all God’s wonderful works.
Glory in God’s holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
Seek the strength of the Lord; seek the Lord’s presence continually.
Remember the wonderful works God has done, the miracles , and the judgement God has uttered, O offspring of Abraham, God’s servant, children of Jacob, God’s chosen ones.
When the Lord summoned famine against the land, and broke every staff of bread, a man was sent ahead of them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave.
His feet were hurt with fetters, his neck was put in a collar of iron; until what he had said had come to pass, the word of the Lord kept testing him.
The king sent and released him; the ruler of the peoples set him free. He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his possessions, to instruct his officials at his pleasure, and to teach his elders wisdom.
Then Israel came to Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham.
All: Praise the Lord!

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

Upcoming hymns / Prochains chants

For those who have expressed interest in singing as a choir, we are including a list of upcoming hymns to give people the opportunity to learn their parts on their own ahead of time. Please sit on the side closest to the video camera, or see France at the beginning of the service for sitting assignment. It is important to note that people should not wear perfume while singing close to others.

How to proceed to study the music on your own:
For regular attendees who read music, you may take pictures of the hymns in the hymn book for you to practice at home for the next service. For those learning by ear, many common hymns are available on you tube where you can listen to them ahead of time. During services, the organist always plays the entire hymn once as an introduction, giving you a head start on how it goes.
