Pasteure / Minister: Rev. Dr. Katherine A. Burgess
Organiste / Organist: David Stafford

March 1st, 2026
Second Sunday in Lent

PRÉLUDE / ORGAN VOLUNTARY:

NOTRE APPORCHE VERS DIEU / OUR APPROACH TO GOD

BIENVENUE, PRIÈRE ET APPEL À LA CÉLÉBRATION  / GREETING, PRAYER AND CALL TO WORSHIP
(Se lever / Congregation rises as the Minister enters)
As I live every day, I want to be a channel for peace. May I bring love where there is hatred and healing where there is hurt; joy where there is sadness, and hope where there is fear. I pray that I may always try to understand and comfort other people, as well as seeking comfort and understanding from them. May I choose always to be a light in the darkness, a help in times of need, and a caring honest friend. And may justice, kindness, and peace flow from my heart forever. Amen.
Into life’s challenges and questions comes the Mystery of God,
and God’s truth opens our eyes.
Into our routines and rituals walks the presence of Christ,
and God’s love brings healing and hope.
Into our traditions and conclusions blows the wind of the Spirit, and God’s people are born from above.
We gather in Jesus’ name to encounter God’s grace and glory.
Let us worship God with open hearts and minds.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

Holy God, Holy and mighty
Holy, immortal one
Have mercy upon us  (3 times)

LENT CANDLE LITURGY
As we seek your face, O God, on our Lenten journey,
may we remember your covenant of grace with your people.
Give us eyes to see your compassion and glory in Christ Jesus
that we may be astounded by your greatness.
Help our hearts to take courage as we wait for you, O God,
so that together we can sing and make melody.

(The second candle is extinguished.)

PRIÈRE D’INVOCATION / PRAYER OF INVOCATION

CANTIQUE / HYMN: 195 COME, YE DISCONSOLATE

PRIÈRE DE CONFESSION / PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of mystery and mercy, we confess that we prefer simple certainty to seeking deeper understanding. We settle for what we know, ignoring our doubts and questions. Forgive us when our faith falters because what we think no longer satisfies. Open our eyes to the truth you hold out to us in Christ, and give us courage to rethink what we have assumed about you and your love for the world. Amen.

LE NOTRE PÈRE / THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Forever and ever, Amen.

GAGE DE PARDON / ASSURANCE OF PARDON

PSAUME / RESPONSIVE READING:  Psalm 121
I lift my eyes up to the hills – from where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
The Lord will not let your foot be moved; the Lord who keeps you will not slumber.
The one who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil; the Lord will keep your life.
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time and forever more.
I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Upcoming hymns / Prochains chants

For those who have expressed interest in singing as a choir, we are including a list of upcoming hymns to give people the opportunity to learn their parts on their own ahead of time. Please see France at the beginning of the service for sitting assignment. It is important to note that people should not wear perfume while singing close to others.

How to proceed to study the music on your own:
For regular attendees who read music, you may take pictures of the hymns in the hymn book for you to practice at home for the next service. For those learning by ear, many common hymns are available on you tube where you can listen to them ahead of time. During services, the organist always plays the entire hymn once as an introduction, giving you a head start on how it goes.
