PRÉLUDE / ORGAN VOLUNTARY
Choral-prelude on Jesus Christ, our Saviour, who turned God's wrath away from us   J.S. Bach

NOTRE APPORCHE VERS DIEU / OUR APPROACH TO GOD

BIENVENUE, PRIÈRE ET APPEL À LA CÉLÉBRATION  / GREETING, PRAYER AND CALL TO WORSHIP
(Se lever / Congregation rises as the Minister enters)
As I live every day, I want to be a channel for peace. May I bring love where there is hatred and healing where there is hurt; joy where there is sadness, and hope where there is fear. I pray that I may always try to understand and comfort other people, as well as seeking comfort and understanding from them. May I choose always to be a light in the darkness, a help in times of need, and a caring honest friend. And may justice, kindness, and peace flow from my heart forever. Amen.

Lord, you are a hiding place for us.
you preserve us from trouble.
Let the faithful offer praise and prayer to God,
for in times of distress, God is with us.
The Lord will teach us the way we should go.
God’s steadfast love always surrounds us.
So let us be glad in the Lord and rejoice in worship!
We will sing for joy with psalms of praise.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
And also with you.

Holy God, Holy and mighty
Holy, immortal one
Have mercy upon us  (3 times)

COLLECTION OF ALLELUIAS

LENT CANDLE LITURGY
In the wilderness, Jesus was tempted to abandon God  for the false hopes of indulgence, arrogance, and certainty.
During our Lenten journey we recognize that we, too, are tempted to turn aside from seeking only God and God’s ways.
As we worship, may we celebrate all the bounty of God’s grace, and always return with mindfulness and gratitude to God.

(The first candle is extinguished.)

PRIÈRE D’INVOCATION / PRAYER OF INVOCATION

CANTIQUE / HYMN: 196 THROUGHOUT THESE LENTEN DAYS AND NIGHTS (1 – 3)

PRIÈRE DE CONFESSION / PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we confess our sin and the sin of this world. We have found peace in Christ, but we are a people divided against ourselves. We confess that many of us still cling to the values of a broken world rather than the principles of your kingdom. In your mercy, heal us, forgive us, and set us free to serve you in the world as agents of your reconciling love in Jesus Christ. Amen.

GAGE DE PARDON / ASSURANCE OF PARDON

PRIÈRE POUR L’ILLUMINATION / PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

LA PAROLE DE DIEU POUR NOUS / GOD’S WORD TO US

1ère LECTURE / 1st READING:         Genesis 2: 15 – 17, 3: 1 - 7
This is the word of the Lord. (La parole de Dieu.)
Thanks be to God. (Nous rendons grâce à Dieu.)

PSAUME/RESPONSIVE READING Psalm 51: 1 – 17
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love.
According to your abundant mercy, blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
Against you, and you alone, have I sinned, and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you are justified in your sentence, and blameless when you pass judgement.
Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me.
You desire truth in the inward being; therefore, teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean.
Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and put a new and right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and sustain in me a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.
Deliver me from bloodshed, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your deliverance.
O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
For you have no delight in sacrifice; if I were to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased.
The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

GLORIA PATRI (594)
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

2ème LECTURE / 2nd READING:  Romans 5: 12 – 19
This is the word of the Lord. (La parole de Dieu.)
Thanks be to God. (Nous rendons grâce à Dieu.)

CANTIQUE / HYMN: 543 HERE, O MY LORD (1 – 4)

PAROLES DE L'INSTITUTION / THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION

INVITATION À LA TABLE / INVITATION TO THE TABLE
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the one, holy, universal, and apostolic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

LA GRANDE PRIÈRE D'ACTION DE GRÂCE / THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give God thanks and praise.
Blessed are you...So now, with all the powers of heaven and earth, we sing the ageless hymn of your glory:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full, full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna in the highest.

Holy is your Son, Jesus. Walking this earth, feeding the hungry, calling the lost, seeing the forgotten, touching those in need of healing, teaching those who sought out wisdom, and loving all, he showed your kingdom in your world and we who are many are made one in him. In breaking bread and sharing wine with your people here and in all places we recall the mystery of our faith:

Christ has died;
Christ is risen;
Christ will come again.

Pour out your Spirit upon us... And now we pray the family prayer which Jesus taught.
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever, Amen.

Upcoming hymns / Prochains chants

For those who have expressed interest in singing as a choir, we are including a list of upcoming hymns to give people the opportunity to learn their parts on their own ahead of time. Please see France at the beginning of the service for sitting assignment. It is important to note that people should not wear perfume while singing close to others.

How to proceed to study the music on your own:
For regular attendees who read music, you may take pictures of the hymns in the hymn book for you to practice at home for the next service. For those learning by ear, many common hymns are available on you tube where you can listen to them ahead of time. During services, the organist always plays the entire hymn once as an introduction, giving you a head start on how it goes.
